The basic variables and calculations of performance and fuel economy are discussed along with test data and recommended values for the parameters that are difficult to ascertain. A hand calculations technique and a computer program for simulating vehicle acceleration time, distance, and fuel economy is discussed. The text is intended as both a state-of-the-art presentation and a technical reference that extends beyond that presented in SAE J688, Truck Ability Prediction Procedure.
