Heavy duty (class 7 - 8) truck wheels have traditionally been made from ductile iron castings or welded steel fabrications. However, as fuel economy and emission concerns become more important, over the road truck designers and end users are looking to aluminum wheels as lightweight alternatives to replace ferrous wheels for improved fuel mileage and increase payload opportunities. Moreover, the style of truck wheels is becoming even more important. Cast aluminum wheels allow the development of personal style associated to a design, which can also be tuned to brake a cooling improvement. Speedline SpA, a unit of Amcast Industrial Corporation, has been involved in the development and supply of cast aluminum truck wheels to European and U.S. customers since 1980.
