The application of Robots in a nuclear environment is a prime example of utilizing modern technology to solve the problems of hostile environments. The robot and its ancillary equipment, however, must be able to withstand the decontamination cleansing process, and be capable of operating for maximum periods of time without repair or service. To meet these specialized requirements, custom engineered components with special materials and parts were required.
