Shanghai Rail Transit Line 10 is the first large capacity line in China that adopts the unattended train operation technology. Limited by the land scale of the station, Jilong Road Station that is the terminal station needs to provide the maximum turn-back capacity designed under the existed civil engineering and operation design conditions. The thirdparty simulation analysis of the operation capacity of the signal system design scheme suggested that the turn-back capacity of one of turn-back modes is low, only 20 pairs / h. Therefore, without changing the station wiring, station location, dwell time and other restrictions, with the goal of tapping the operation potential of electromechanical equipment, six strategies for turn-back capacity promotion based on safety braking model optimization are proposed, and the applicability comparative analysis is completed. Finally, the project adopts the strategy of reducing ATO (i.e., automatic train operation) stop braking rate to shorten the protection distance of JJL2 platform from 35m to 18m. The simulation analysis shows that the turn-back capacity is increased to 33 pairs / h. Compared with the original design, the turn-back capacity is increased by 65%. It meets the construction needs of the project, avoids ten million RMB or even billions of RMB in transformation investment due to insufficient turn-back capacity, and provides important engineering experience for the follow-up work of operation capacity promotion for existed lines.
