Abstract The next generation of small satellites is going to face a variety of different and more demanding mission scenarios from the past. Advanced, agile and high precision Earth and space Observation, satellite inspection, distributed platforms-constellations, satellite docking, miniature interplanetary probes are just some of the future missions to come. The present paper discusses the development of a new type of actuator for small satellites, a Control Moment Gyroscope (CMG).
