The maritime industry is a cornerstone of global trade, providing livelihoods for millions and playing a critical role in international economic balance. This study aims to identify the key factors influencing ship accidents and to analyze the cause-and-effect relationships among them. Given the complex nature of maritime accidents, which often result from the interaction of multiple elements, a systematic approach is essential. This thesis focuses on human factors, structural risks related to ships, external factors, training deficiencies, and navigation errors. To explore these dynamics, multi-criteria decision-making methods such as Fuzzy DEMATEL, F-AHP, and F-TOPSIS were utilized. The study analyzed 86 maritime accidents reported by the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, Directorate General of Transport Safety, between 2013 and 2024. In addition, interviews with three seafarers, each with 10 years of experience, helped identify five main factors contributing to accidents. In the application phase, these factors were evaluated using the Fuzzy DEMATEL method based on the assessments of three decision-makers, revealing the interactions and weights of each factor. Subsequently, the most common five accident types were prioritized using the Fuzzy AHP method. Finally, the five main factors were ranked using the F-TOPSIS method, and the results were compared with those of F-DEMATEL. This comprehensive analysis aims to enhance the understanding of maritime accident dynamics and support the development of more effective prevention strategies.
