The image of an engine room in a ship is determined not only by the drive motor(s), the drive shaft(s), and if applicable, the gears, but also by piping, valves, pumps, and other aggregates. The main maneuvering device is the steering gear. In addition to this, there are other facilities and installations for operating the ship, some of which are specific to the type of ship and its range of tasks.
