CognitiveCognitiveergonomicsErgonomics concerns are critical elements when considering automationAutomation in any application, including mobile computingMobile computing contexts. This paper aims to gain insight into the relationship between cognitiveCognitiveergonomicsErgonomics and automationAutomation in mobile computingMobile computing by creating and analyzing a sample dataset of publications within the domain. BibliometricBibliometrics analysis was then performed on the dataset, including identifying the most prolific authors and most popular publication sources and co-citationCo-citation analyses regarding both cited references and cited authors. Content analysis in the form of network maps and word cloudsWordcloud provides insight into the elements that are important to the field overall, as well as some indication of how the emphasis of the domain has both changed and persisted over time. Important themes included applications and users of automationAutomation, task-related factors, human–computer interactionHuman-Computer Interaction (HCI), and automationAutomation acceptance and trustTrust. The importance of automationAutomationtrustTrust is further highlighted by a content analysis of the most highly cited publications within the sample (n = 12). There is a persistent emphasis throughout the literature on the system, humans, and tasks. While present early in the literature, there is an increased emphasis on vehiclesVehicles and communicationCommunications in the more recent literature and a decreased focus on control.
