Technical requirements for process and propulsion systems on seagoing ships are similar to those for industrial land based installations because the safety considerations are the same. Nevertheless, often engineers who are used to design land based process technology applications wonder about “strange” requirements for ships which appear to them unnecessary. For a better understanding, the special situations on board of ships should be considered.
