Abstract Uncertainties are present in any engineering task. If the predicted result of a numerical simulation agrees with test results or operational data, then uncertainties are typically ignored or simply not even recognized. In case of disagreement, they often become of key interest. This section describes the different types of uncertainties in a product development process and how to handle them in an uncertainty quantification and robust design optimization.
