Noise prediction explains the method of calculating ranges of noise theoretically within an area of interest for an explicit type of situation. Many researchers have developed plenty of noise prediction models for their respective countries such as (CoRTN) (UK), EMPA (Stl 86) (Switzerland), and RLS-90 (Germany). CoRTN has been progressed by Hood, Harland, Delany, and Scholes in the Department of Environmental Engineering, United Kingdom (UK). The validation of any model provides its applicability and appropriateness in various road and traffic condition. Therefore, the main objective of this paper is to carry out validation of road traffic noise prediction model CoRTN for Indian road and traffic conditions. The standard deviation between monitored and predicted level of noise before and after applying correction factor has been found to be in the range of 0.62 to 4.99 and 0.06 to 3.47, respectively. The results clearly indicate that the CoRTN model cannot be directly used for forecasting the extent of noise in Indian traffic conditions. However, after applying some correction like correction for honking noise, noise of bicycle and noise due to vintage of vehicle predicted results improve considerably which point toward the applicability and fitness of the model in Indian traffic and road conditions.
