The main aim of the article is to investigate the influence of the method of railway telegram encryption on the delay of transmission in open radio systems. It is intended for persons actively involved in the security of radio transmission for railway tasks and persons involved in the legal legislation of standards. The development of the systems of wireless communication and their availability causes that various branches of transport imply wireless technologies for their needs. Although every radio transmission may be systematically protected without unauthorized access, additional methods of encryption improving safety according to the designers of such systems are applied in specific applications. The norm EN 50159:2011 was analyzed in this article. The main assumptions contained in the standard are presented in this article and it is addressed to persons dealing with railway safety. The results presented in this article can be used to verify the usefulness of the application of encryption methods described in the standard in terms of parameter - delayed transmission and changes in legal regulations in this area.
