The efficiency of passengers’ alighting and boarding will be determined by the discrepancy of their behaviors and alighting-boarding proportion. To explore their detailed alighting and boarding behaviors, an improved social force model (ISFM) considering the “Disembarking precedes embarking” (DPE) rule is built. Firstly, three indices, such as passing time, throughput rate and average delay traversing the bottleneck, are put forward. Secondly, compared to the social force model (SFM), the passengers’ boarding and alighting behaviors are simulated to evaluate their efficiency based on the ISFM in various simulation scenarios. The results show that the self-organization behaviors of passengers are reproduced with the ISFM when passengers alighting and boarding trains. And efficiency indices are highest, which denotes that the DPE rule can improve the accuracy of the ISFM. Moreover, the boarding and alighting behaviors attain minimum efficiency when boarding passengers are equal to the alighting.
