This study analyzes the drag of civil aircraft fuselage air inlets and outlets with consideration of the influence from engine jet flow, using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations. It examines the incremental drag on typical aircraft air inlets and outlets using two engine simulation approaches: powered nacelles and through-flow nacelles. The results indicate that the assessment of ventilation drag using the through-flow nacelle simulation is quite close to that of the power nacelle simulation, with a difference of only about 0.05%, demonstrating that it is feasible to assess fuselage inlets and outlets drag using through-flow nacelles.
