Thus far, we have methodically developed and presented a set of tools that allows the reader to formulate a perturbation problem in a straightforward manner using the Lagrange planetary equations. We have presented a rigorous approach for the method of averaging, which allows construction of a transformation of variables that removes dependence on the fast variables, making the resulting equations simpler and perhaps more amenable to analytical solution.
