Road congestion and heavy traffic in cities are one of the most annoying problems of urbanization. Several projects and management systems have tried to overcome this problem, but no feasible solution has been devised yet. Modern traffic management systems are heavily dependent on traffic lights. But, traffic lights deployed nowadays work on obsolete logic of fixed time cycles. It is therefore extremely important to find an alternate approach for solving this problem. The proposed system makes use of sensors to detect traffic density at crossroads and reinforcement learning-based STLS algorithm to schedule traffic lights.
