Vehicle routing problems (VRP) have various applications in the industry, they are important for the proper functioning of logistics systems and they are often treated as problems of economic interest because they seek to generate solutions that minimize aspects such as: the size of the routes, the number of vehicles, transfer times, etc., which have a financial impact on companies. In the case study company, there is currently no adequate management of resources, since the way in which transport routes are assigned according to the experience of the workers, who are unaware of the requirements of the delivery points, causing late deliveries or incomplete deliveries. In order to meet the requirements of the delivery points, it is necessary to propose a distribution plan that guarantees the delivery of the requirements at the lowest cost. The Clarke and Wright heuristic and VRP mathematical model are applied to the merchandise distribution network to decrease the company's transportation costs and to propose a solution to vehicle routing problems, in addition to present to the company's personnel a decision-making tool for a better use of the vehicle fleet.
