Abstract With the development of industry, the amount of dangerous goods transported by railway increased yearly. In order to evaluate the risk to human lives, environment and property, in this paper, the characteristics of railway transport was discussed, then based on the traditional double index (probability and consequences) technology risk assessment model, a improved in-transit risk assessment model for railway dangerous goods was constructed, in which various consequences as casualties and property losses, transportation interrupt and the environmental pollution were considered comprehensively. By effectively evaluate the risk, references criteria will be provided for optimization of railway dangerous goods transportation.
