Vibration is an important consideration in the overall automobile quality assessment. Currently in Vietnam, vibration-related assessments are conducted only once at the manufacturer’s facility using a test rig specially made for vibration testing. There is usually no further vibration quality control steps taken after the vehicle is sold and used, regardless of the significant downgrade of vibration characteristics and behaviors over time.
This paper presents a low-cost, portable approach to test Whole-Body Vibration vehicle vibration. The test measures real-time vibration characteristics and behaviors as the vehicle is running. The International standards ISO 2631 and 2631-1 used for testing. The setup accelerometers at the engine, the steering wheel, the body floor and the gear shift. The experiment in this study is conducted at 100 km/h (80% max speed) in the good highway condition.
In conclusion, the paper has presented a simple yet effective setup to assess the vibration characteristics and behaviors of the vehicle. It is also feasible to implement the similar setup on used vehicles, helping to assess and therefore improve the vibration characteristics and behaviors of the the vehicle.
