At an intersection where two or more roadways meet, rules are expected to resolve conflict between different streams of traffic. Currently, the hierarchy of intersection control incorporates three levels, namely basic rules, signs, and signalization, with increasing restrictiveness. Safety and operation efficiency are the major considerations in determining which level of control to apply at a specific intersection.
