Nowadays customers and patients mostly prefer online shopping and ordering their medicines, which increases the need for the delivery person (Hayat et al. in IEEE Commun Surv Tutorials 18(4):2624–2661, 2016). The rise in online ordering has given a spike to the requirement of manpower to deliver the order to the vast majority of people located in different parts of the city and country. Drone-based delivery systems can be used to meet this requirement. The current drone delivery technology has some drawbacks like they are not economically efficient enough so that it can be implemented on a large scale, also the technology used in the current drone is not made such that it can be upgraded easily in the future. This paper is going to present a way to build a prototype of a drone delivery system using GPS and telemetry with all the necessary circuit connections. GPS is going to help drones to navigate from one point to another as well as some necessary flight modes like fail safe and return to landing position modes, and telemetry is a device which is being installed on the drone which can take various types of commands like takeoff, land, parcel drop, and data communication from the ground station. Also this paper shows the future aspects and possibility of upgrade in such a type of robotic system. Prototype shown in this paper can be upgraded to hexacopter and octacopter depending on weight lifting capacity requirement. GPS used in the prototype is precise enough for landing but if required then can be upgraded to a more advanced GPS module.
