The important role of timely and high-quality maintenance and repair on railway transport, increasing its economic efficiency, safety and consumer qualities are substantiated. The possibility and necessity of solving this problem through the introduction of intelligent maintenance and repair are shown. The necessary categorical apparatus has been clarified and systematized. The concept of intelligent maintenance and repair, based on the digital transformation of the industry; introduction of Internet of Things technologies for “communication” of transport devices and systems with service personnel; principles of remote monitoring and maintenance; predictive maintenance, providing a forecast of the maintenance time and repair of equipment and transport infrastructure facilities; augmented and virtual reality, immersing the subject into the visually and technologically visible world of interacting machines and equipment are proposed. A brief overview of the topic and typical examples are given.
