This paper investigates the deployment problem for multistatic sonar networks to simultaneously obtain sufficient region coverage for underwater surveillance and high localization accuracy for potential targets. First, the models of region coverage for underwater surveillance and multistatic localization based on root mean square error are derived. Then we formulate the problem as a multi-objective nonlinear optimization problem under multiple constrains and solve it using an iteration search method based on multi-objective particle swarm optimization. Finally, we give the Pareto set of deployment optimization under two objectives. We use numerical simulations to demonstrate the performance of the proposed system.
