AUTOSAR is the abbreviation of AUTomotive Open System ARchitecture. It is a consortium of automobile manufacturers, suppliers, tool manufacturers, and development service providers who standardize software architecture, interfaces, and the development methodology for the development of software for control units for motor vehicles.

The topic of timing plays a role at various points in AUTOSAR. This chapter sheds a light on the AUTOSAR Classical Platform (CP), the AUTOSAR Adaptive Platform (AP), AUTOSAR Timing Extensions (TIMEX for short), the AUTOSAR Run-Time Interface (ARTI) and the Technical Report “Timing Analysis”.
