The most important subsystem in a UAV compared with a manned aircraft is the autopilot, since there is no human in a UAV. The autopilot has the responsibility to: 1. stabilize the UAV, 2. track commands, 3. guide the UAV, and 4. navigate. This chapter will introduce primary sections of an autopilot, and will review some fundamental topics such as dynamic modelling, UAV dynamics, forces and moments, transfer function, state space, and linearization.
