Maritime transportation represents a significant part of global trade and transport activity. However, security in this area remains a paramount concern for both maritime and inland transportation systems. The trend towards increasing vessel size and speed, accompanied by a reduction in crew size, necessitates the integration of modern security measures into the operation of maritime vessels and commercial ports. This highlights the relevance of developing modern strategies to minimize negative incidents and optimize ship operations. This study addresses maritime safety issues by examining the overall frequency of ship accidents, analyzing the annual increase in the number of major accidents, and examining the main causes of incidents occurring in port waters and on the high seas. Examination of current safety monitoring techniques, incident management practices, and accident investigation emphasizes a proactive approach to preventing adverse events. With the increasing number of incidents, this study critically evaluates existing safety measures and proposes strategies to improve maritime safety through the implementation of innovative tools such as event and incident management. By addressing the complex problems associated with maritime accidents and proposing effective safety measures, this study contributes to the sustainable development of the maritime transportation sector.
