In order to better regulate and manage the pollution problems caused by ship ballast water to the marine environment and ecological environment, this paper analyzes the discharge of ballast water from ships and illustrates the uses of ship ballast water and the pollution hazards of failing to replace and treat ballast water in accordance with regulatory requirements. According to reliable data, more than 10,000 species of marine organisms worldwide co-distribute ballast water. It is clear that the spread of ballast water has enormous energy and far-reaching effects on the ecosystem, and may even spread diseases and threaten human health. At the same time, it can also cause huge economic losses to human beings. The article also briefly introduces the ballast water treatment technologies that are widely used at present, and puts forward corresponding countermeasures based on the existing ship ballast water management methods and problems, calling on the global maritime sector and relevant shipping enterprises to take measures to reduce the harm to human beings and the world economy caused by ship ballast water.
