Based on corpuscular particle method (CPM), the inflation and deployment of metal airbag is simulated considering the fluid–structure interaction. The deployment of a fabric airbag is simulated and evaluated using CPM and control volume method (CVM), and the simulation results are compared with the references. It is found that the inflow field can be simulated by CPM method, but not by CVM. The simulation of inflow field is essential for the early deployment of metal airbags. Because the initial deformation of the metal airbag is small, the high-speed gas flow will directly impact the airbag wall, resulting in stress concentration. Therefore, CPM is selected to simulate and analyze metal airbags (stainless steel and alloy) deployment. It is found that unlike fabric, the wall of the metal airbag will be squeezed and impacted with itself, so contact needs to be set. In addition, it has been observed that the stress is mainly concentrated in the inlet at the beginning of the airbag deployment, while the stress concentration is distributed on the welds when the airbag is full deployed. Accordingly, two improved alloy airbags structures are proposed. The simulation results show that both models strengthen the structure of airbag.
