The article is devoted to the automation of traffic control at intersections divided into two or more sections by internal stop lines. A recently introduced method for studying crossroads is being developed, based on the joint choice of the phase separation of traffic directions and the duration of the phases of the light cycle of traffic regulation for a multi-section crossroads. The problem of preliminary determination of efficient values of traffic light control parameters for a given phase-wise traffic separation scheme (TSS) with established traffic requirements (for example, intensity and safety) is formalized in terms of linear programming. Correction of observation data to exclude random errors is provided. It is recommended to use this method for both the choice of preferable safe TSSs and traffic optimization at the crossroads. Calculation methods for the above are presented and illustrated with the typical example of a multi-section crossroads. Some aspects of training and adaptation of the drivers to intelligent road intersections are discussed.
