Writing a dedicated book on an exciting topic such as space robotics requires a lot of effort and thinking to capture the fundamental knowledge of the topic that has been published to dater and also understand and follow the latest developments of the topic and its rapid advancement in space robotics in this case. After several years of effort in addressing both of these requirements, editors believe we now have a book that can present the fundamentals of space robotics so as to lay a foundation from which those new to the topic can read and learn. In doing so it represents the latest technological advancement and the state of the art of space robotics as derived from major international initiatives that the editors have access to. As such, the book is structured to provide reading materials of these two groups of topics, which aims to disseminate knowledge of space robotics and advance future space robotics development by outlining future research and development directions and trends so that human beings can accelerate their desire to explore the universe and to discover new knowledge.
