In this study, we delve into pedestrian day-to-day behavior within repeated walking scenarios, with a particular emphasis on the role of advanced information sharing. A controlled human-subject experiment was implemented, elucidating key aspects of pedestrian behavior. Our focus was to understand how pedestrians navigate through routes when given access to advanced information, and how their choices differ in its absence. Maintaining consistency in experimental conditions for all participants, we manipulated the variable of advanced information availability, creating two distinct scenarios for analysis. This manipulation allowed us to discern its impact on pedestrians’ behavior. When comparing pedestrian behaviors in the two scenarios of differing levels of advanced information availability, we found that the number of people choosing each route was more balanced in the scenario with more advanced information. The study’s results offer critical insights for researchers in the field of pedestrian dynamics, enhancing understanding of pedestrian behavior within repetitive walking contexts, particularly in the light of advanced information sharing. Furthermore, our findings can serve as valuable input for planners designing walking routes for high-repetition environments, such as subway stations.
