This paper investigates the role of Automotive Emergency Braking (AEB) systems in enhancing driving safety and mitigating accidents. AEB utilizes radars and cameras to detect obstacles ahead, issuing warnings and automatically applying brakes to prevent collisions, thereby significantly bolstering road safety. Analysis reveals that ABS systems shorten braking time and distance, e.g., by 12.6 m at 120 km/h. AEB’s reaction time directly impacts the necessary safety distance; shorter times equate to shorter distances. Specifically, at 120 km/h, when a car follows a truck, doubling AEB’s reaction time from 1 to 2 s increases the safety distance from 33.3 m to 66.7 m. Conversely, for a truck trailing a car, the safety distance also notably expands from 60.7 m to 94.1 m with prolonged AEB response. For stable AEB operation, research advises maintaining at least 150 m spacing above 120 km/h and reducing to 40 m below 60 km/h. These findings offer insights for AEB optimization and road safety enhancement.
