Proposed article discusses the issues related to hacker cyberattacks, such as “Website substitution” and “URL substitution”. Some theoretical information about substitution cyberattacks is given, and their classification is described. The threats they may pose to the user are demonstrated. New modern and advanced methodologies are proposed to mitigate, counteract and neutralize fake cyberattacks. No matter how much the attackers are getting stronger these days, everyone's job is to protect themselves from them. In this article, as a result of investigations, the browser extension “Website Checker 1.0” was developed, written in the Javascript programming language. The test environment used for the cyberattack failed to deceive the software developed by the authors. The testing of browser extension was successful, which proves that the extension developed by the authors, works correctly and that it can be modified in the future. The conducted research proves once again that every user has the opportunity to protect themselves from any unauthorized threats. That is why the authors identify indicators of the most common types of substitution cyberattacks, and give general recommendations for protection against substitution cyberattacks.
