Abstract Since time immemorial, Juoiter has illuminated our nocturnal skies. Ancient civilizations all over the world recognized it as one of the brightest planets or wanderers among the fixed stars. Although it was outshone by Venus, the morning or evening “star,” Jupiter had no rival (other than the moon and the occasional apparition of Venus) after midnight, when it frequently dominated the heavens.
