In recent years, urban air mobility (UAM) has emerged as a transformative force in transportation, powered by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or drones. UAM promises to revolutionize air transport services by establishing efficient and innovative connections between cities, suburbs, rural areas, and previously inaccessible regions. This study delves deeper into one of the most promising applications of UAM, the healthcare sector, by analyzing ongoing survey data collected from healthcare workers (N = 154). The survey investigates the perceptions and attitudes of these professionals, with a specific focus on the potential applications to the Portuguese medical and healthcare services. Early results find a limited prior knowledge of using drones for medical purposes among healthcare workers. Furthermore, concerns related to safety and security are apparent. However, it is noteworthy that healthcare workers generally hold a positive outlook on both urgent and non-urgent applications of drones in their field. By recognizing and addressing these diverse perspectives, encompassing both the negative and positive aspects, through deliberate and systematic design, valuable insights can be gained. These insights have the potential to guide the development of UAM technologies in healthcare, ultimately contributing to improved services, enhanced safety, and more efficient and effective healthcare delivery.
