Invertubes are crash energy absorbing structures incorporated in automobiles for frontal crash protection. Researchers have proposed various designs of crush tubes, some of which outperform others in terms of crashworthiness parameters. Invertube provides excellent crashworthiness due to its unique mode of deformation i.e. tube inversion which controls high initial peak forces resulting in attenuating the forces transmitted to the passenger during vehicular collisions. This paper explores the requirement of optimum thickness of an invertube for maximum energy absorption and better crashworthiness. Non-linear explicit FEA simulations are adopted and the result is validated with experimental result in the literature for a nominal thickness.
