A charge density meter for electrostatically charged mists is described. It was built for the use in empty cargo tanks of tankers. It is based on the measurement of the potential in the centre of a well defined volume of charged mist. A water dropper is used as potential equalizer. The measuring range is from 10(power -9) to 7.5 X 10(power -8) C m(power -3).
