Airborne search and track radar employs electronic scanning in elevation to provide rapid search of large sky volumes. Total radar is expected to weigh 217 lb. The one-axis electronically scanned antenna is programmable in the elevation pattern and elevation beam pointing. An adaptive feature is included by which the mechanical speed requirements for the azimuth scan are controlled for a better match to the electronic scan in elevation. Norden Div. of United Aircraft contends that the agile vertical beam offers benefits in speed of coverage and flexibility for growth to multiple modes because of the ability to program patterns.
