Ten units of commutter type diesel railcars were supplied to Colombo, Sri Lanka, to help ease the rush hour traffic in that capital city. One unit train consists of four cars - one power coach, two trailer coaches, and one trailer control coach. Basic specifications are indentical with those for the commuter diesel railcars supplied to the Ceylon Government Railway in 1974, except that the most modern electronic control system, with improved performance reliability and accuracy, is introduced to enhance operating efficiency. In addition, these railcars enable maximum four-unit multiple operation. For the trailer coaches, the knocked down system was used in which bodies manufactured locally were mounted on underframes fabricated in Japan.
