In very powerful drive with machine-commutated convertor fed synchronous motor, in order to reduce the torque ripple, a double star synchronous machine is used instead of a classical one. The two statoric windings are shifted by 30 electrical degrees and are fed by two current static commutators whose commutations are also shifted by 30 degrees. The authors show how they have established the single star equivalent circuit by two successive changes of variables. They compare the derived results with the experimental ones for a 3200 kW motor used in electrical traction.
