ABS reliably prevents the wheels from locking under excessive braking and thus guarantees steerability and stability, irrespective of the road surface and condition of the tires, while at the same time ensuring optimum deceleration of the vehicle. ABS helps to prevent accidents as a result of wheel lock-up (approximately 5-10 % of all accidents according to experts). Furthermore, ABS prevents localized 'bald patches' on tires as a result of emergency braking and thus helps to reduce tire wear. The system has proved an excellent success in the field. More than 650000 vehicles are already equipped with the Bosch ABS system. Based on these many years of experience, the system is still being constantly further developed by consistently using the latest technologies offered by microelectronics.
