The two groups of four cells have completed over one year of real-time cycling (more than 5200 cycles) under simulated low-earth-orbit test conditions. Neither group shows any sign of performance degradation. The 105 percent charge return (ampere-hour basis) appears sufficient to maintain discharge voltage performance. This charge return is advantageous over higher charge returns from both energy balance and overall life considerations. Testing will continue until the test groups cannot maintain 1.0 volt per cell for 35 minutes of discharge. Achieving a cycle life in excess of 15.000 to 20.000 cycles in this 40 % to 60 % depth-of-discharge regime would prove these cells quite attractive for many low-earth-orbit satellite applications.
