Revenue service began in October 1985 for Lines 3 and 4 of the Seoul Metro Subway System in Seoul, Korea. A dedicated 22.9-kV primary supply system feeds ac power to 18 traction power substations which convert the power to 1500 V dc for feeding to the vehicles. Two types of overhead contact system are used; a rigid trolley bar system in tunnels, and simple catenary above-ground and in the car yards. An extensive power system study was conducted for confirmation of performance.
