The authors describe the first practical design of a superconducting coil (SAGE 7) for a full-scaled electromagnetic thruster (EMT) ship. SAGE 7 has a racetrack configuration with a circular cross-section, a energy storage capacity of 660 MJ, a magnetic flux density at electrodes of 4 Teslas. The 12 superconducting coils generate the maximum thrust of 25 MN.
