Historically, support has been critical to the success of combat operations. Analysis of the relationship between operations and support has and will continue to be an important area of military study. Reliability and maintainability improvements to Air Force Weapon systems will be measured in terms of improved warfighting capability. System effectiveness modeling is a useful method for analyzing the trade offs between reliability, maintainability, and war fighting capability. Decision support systems using efectiveness models can be used to communicate logistics constraints and requirements to the weapon system designer or to assist identification of weapon system improvements which result in the largest mission capability gains. Altogether, the desire to state reliability and maintainability improvements in terms of war fighting capability will lead to the creation of superior Air Force support. 19
