A description of an automatic laser testing set (ALTS) which calculates laser characteristics beam by detecting the laser beam with a diode matrix array is presented. The new testing method permits measurements to be accomplished more accurately, and faster than the burned film or aperture/radiometer techniques presently employed. Storage of a large number of pulse data into memory permits evaluation of laser warm-up characteristics and graphical display of parameter changes such as beam divergence as well as providing a dynamic 3-D display of the laser beam profile.
