The Indian Railways' communication system has to cater for direct communication channels (data and speech), linking Divisional interchange points, transhipment points, loco sheds, marshalling yards, and sub control offices with the Divisional Control Offices; as also linking of Divisional Offices, Divisional Control Offices, Zonal Interchange points and major marshalling yards with the Zonal Headquarters and Central Control; and of the major yards, zonal interchange points and zonal headquarters with the central computer centre in the Railway Board's Office. The system also has to provide for radio patching of a maximum number of open wire control circuits to ensure its uninterrupted working for punctual train operation. The system is designed to meet future needs for mobile communication between fixed location (like control offices) and the moving train to ensure efficient and safe working of high speed trains.
