ACT-1 remains truly an Advanced Concept Train, embracing new technology in a testbed environment. The initial proposal has been tempered by the realism inherent in translating a multitude of complex ideas into hardware. That translation is further constrained by the need for ACT-1 to interface with existing transit lines in a safe manner. ACT-1 becomes an evolutionary rather than revolutionary step in the forward development of urban rail transit.
