Discusses a night energy source using the Earth's thermal albedo that is present both night and day. If the energy of the Earth's albedo (300K at 10 mum) can be used as a source and radiation in the spatial direction (3.5K) as a sink, the conversion of this energy into propulsive power can be more than sufficient to provide a vehicle with sensor and propulsive power for night/day operation. The albedo flux above 12 km altitude is 140 to 390 Watts/m2, depending upon cloud conditions. Presents the concept, preliminary design fabrication and test of a thermal Albedo Energy Converter for high altitude, long endurance platforms.
