The chopper-controlled trolley bus not only reduces air pollution and noise, but achieves energy saving and easy maintenance, compared with a conventional trolley bus with electromagnetic contactor control. The first hundred MASA and Toshiba trolley buses were delivered and put into service last year. These trolley buses are now being operated satisfactorily. The second hundred trolley buses are now being manufactured. The authors describe an outline of the chopper-control system for these trolley buses.
